This division is for players aged 11 & 12 year
olds. The DBYHL normally offers a house and travel program
for this level. The house program will practice once per
week and play a total of 12 games throughout the season. A
minimum of 6 games will be played out of the Kettering Rec
Center. Our house teams play in the Greater Dayton Youth
Hockey league (GDYHL) along with teams from Butler
County, and Troy associations along with other Bomber teams. This league stresses fun, recreation,
development of skills, and good sportsmanship. Games have
three 10 minute periods with stop time and players will
normally change during the play. Also, at this age level
body contact is allowed and begins at this level. We offer
clinics on learning this specific skill to all our peewee
and above aged players.
The travel program starts with an evaluation
after the season has completed and prior to the beginning of
the next season. All players interested in playing at this
level are rated through a series of skills & a game
evaluation and the top rated players are offered a position
on the team. Travel teams are generally more competitive,
more aggressive and their skills have developed to allow
them to compete at this higher level. They will generally
play teams from outside the area and travel more with
possible over night stays. They will practice at least 1-1/2
times per week and play at least 20 games as well as do more
practices, games & tournament if the team decides. Generally
are travel teams will play teams from Cincinnati along with teams from Indiana,
Kentucky & Ohio.
For the 2006 - 2007 season the peewee level
is for children born in 1995 or 1994. The DBYHL will have a
travel team that was selected back in May of this year as
well as a team in our house program.
